Q. How do I report a problem about Yakkle?
Q. What does Yakkle run on?
A. Yakkle is currently supported on Windows XP and Windows Vista platforms.
Q. Can I use Yakkle with my AIM/Yahoo account?
A. Yakkle is designed to initially integrate with a Google gmail or "jabber" Instant Messenger account (we do not support AIM, Yahoo or MSN messenger accounts at this point). If you already have one, great! If you don't, they are free to create (we recommend a Google gmail account). Directions on how to create an account are inside Yakkle when you first run it.
Q. Who do I add to my contacts (buddy) list?
A. You can add anyone with a Google gmail or Jabber IM account to your contacts list. Anyone you add will get a notification that you want to add them to your list and they must allow it.
Q. What equipment do I need to use the audio part of Yakkle?
A. If you want to use the voice part of Yakkle, you should have a "USB Headset" or any microphone, earphones or speakers that you can plug into your PCs sound card. For the best audio experience, we recommend using a USB Headset.
Q. Are there other Instant Messenger applications I can use Yakkle with?
A. Your contacts with Google gmail accounts can use Google chat application. Contacts with Jabber accounts can use the Spark Instant Messenger application. Both of these applications can send and recieve Instant Messages with Yakkle.
Q. How do I get rid of echo in my headset?
A. Some headsets have issues with echo. You may say something and then hear your own voice echoing back to you. This is typically heard on the less expensive headsets. You can try and correct this, if your headset supports the AGC settings. Here's how:
Go into the Control Panel, open the Sounds and Audio Devices folder. Now follow along with the screen shown here.
Select the "Voice" tab located at the top of the Sound and Audio Devices screen.
Make sure the default device shown is your headset. If not, select it from this list.
Click on the Volume... button
Dialog box #2 will now appear. If you do not see the "Advanced" button as shown, select the "Options" menu and turn on Advanced Controls.
Now click on the "Advanced" button.
Dialog box #3 will now appear. Uncheck the "1 AGC" box. Your echo problems should now be corrected.
Q. Q. How much does it cost to use Yakkle?
A. Yakkle is Free to use! It is our plan that the features that you see in Yakkle today will continue to be free both in Beta and into General Availability.
Q. Can I Yakkle at my place of work?
A. As long as your connection to the Internet does not block UDP traffic or XMPP (google chat) connections you should be able to connect to other Yakklers to instant message, voice chat and share desktops.
Q. Can I allow allow someone else to control applications on my machine?
A. Yes. When you use Yakkle you are not only able to display to a peer what is on your desktop, you can allow them to use their keyboard and mouse to control applications on your desktop. You do this by clicking on the Allow Desktop Control button.
Q. How do I restrict what a peer can see on my desktop?
A. Yakkle allows three modes of desktop sharing: Attached, Detached, and Full Screen. If you share your desktop using using either the Attached or Detached mode a "sharing" window will be displayed. Your peer will only be able to view the portion of your desktop within the "sharing" window.
Q. How do I take control of my desktop back?
A. Once you have allowed a peer to control your desktop with their mouse and keyboard, you can "take back" control by simply moving your mouse. Once you have regained control you can simply disable the peers mouse and keyboard control.
Q. Does Yakkle require Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)?
A. Yakkle does not require UPnP to connect with peers. We think this is a good thing. If you don't believe us, maybe you will believe Bruce Schneier (http://www.schneier.com/crypto-gram-0201.html#1 ) or Steve Gibson (http://www.grc.com/unpnp/unpnp.htm).
Q. Does Yakkle use supernodes?
A. Yakkle does not rely on supernodes to connect peers. You can be assured that when you run Yakkle your voice and desktop information are not passing through some unknown computer. Also there is no concern of your computer processing and/or bandwidth being "donated" to supernode processing of someone elses Yakkle session.
Q. Does Yakkle use a TURN server?
A. Yakkle does not rely on a TURN server to connect peers. You can be assured that when you run Yakkle your voice and desktop information are not passing through some unknown computer.
Q. Is my password being captured or saved by Zenviva (the company that built Yakkle) when I log into my gmail or jabber server?
A. Absolutely not. Your username and password are sent directly from your Yakkle client to the server that your are logging into.
Q. How secure is the data from me to my peer?
A. Yakkle uses several security techniques to keep your data private. The first is our peer to peer architecture. This means that none of your data is proxied through a central server or super node. The next and probably the most important technique is that each new session between peers uses a one time unique security certificate key used for communication.
Q. How do I report a problem about Yakkle?
A. The easiest way to report a problem with Yakkle is to use our built in Feedback form. From within Yakkle, click on the Help menu and select the Feedback... option. Fill in the form with your problem information and press the Submit button. This information will be sent directly to us. WARNING - Please include a valid email if you want a response from us. We support jabber.org accounts to run Yakkle, however, jabber.org is not a valid email address and we will not be able to respond to your problem. You may also email support@yakkle.com as well.
